I had been an atheist since about 12 or 13. That does not entirely mean I am no longer an atheist! It means that things are more complex than I thought they were and I always knew they were complex. For several years now I have considered myself to be an Unitarian Universalist. We UU's range from Christians to Wiccas, and include more than a few atheists and secular or religious humanist.
It is about our relationship with the universe, whatever it is. The universe if full of mystery, and that mystery may or may not include something that is in some way analogous to the word God. (This makes me think of a science fiction short story, The 10,000 names of God) I think the universe, whatever the mystery is deserving of respect and care. Perhaps using the word God(s) is a way to give that.
If we do not show and feel that respect, then we are not showing or feeling respect to ourselves, our fellow human beings, for we are all a part of that universe.
I hope someone reads this who has a name for it. I would love to be able to find out what others are thinking along this way.
and to all a good night.
